Care and Maintenance

***This is a recommended care guide from Gudde Co.  This is only our recommendations for care, we strongly urge all to follow the manufacturer's guide lines for care. We use WOCA Oil and Osmo Poly-X Oil Wax Blend and Rubio Monocoat for our Eco-Friendly finishes.  Please review our Finishing Process for more information on oil based finishes.

***All Ready Made and Custom Order pieces are subject to Gudde Co's Terms and Conditions regarding care and maintenance once product is delivered/received.

***The below maintenance guide is outlined for the use of WOCA products. Your piece may be finished with Osmo or Rubio Monocoat, the maintenance guide is the same for these finishes as they have their own cleaning products.  Follow the links to find the specific products for Osmo or Rubio.

BASIC CARE

  • Never wash newly delivered pieces. For the first week, it is important to allow the piece to acclimate to it's new place in your home. During this time we only recommend light dustings. In the event of spills or other issues, immediately wipe up any water or item spilled and allow to air dry.

  • Never use any of the following products (or products similar in nature) on your furniture: abrasive cleaning soaps, acrylic finishes, ammonia-based cleaners, bleach, detergents, polishes, mineral spirits, wax-based products, or acidic materials such as vinegar. Many of these products can damage your furniture finish.

  • Maintain a consistent humidity level between heating seasons in all living areas. Excessive swings in humidity levels may cause a natural wood piece of furniture to expand and contract resulting in unwanted cupping, shrinking or expanding of the wood. By controlling the environment, maintaining an adequate temperature and relative humidity, you will minimize the visible effects of the seasonal contraction and expansion of your pieces.

  • Wipe up spills immediately. Never let water stand on wood for any length of time.

REGULAR CLEANING/MAINTENANCE

When your piece of furniture is dirty, the use of WOCA Soap is the only recommended cleaner to clean your pieces. WOCA Soap is a quality soap, which, due to it nourishing properties, quickly closes the pores of the wood and protects against dirt and penetration of liquids.

The WOCA Soap needs to be diluted in water as follows: HALF CUP OF WOCA SOAP PER 5 QUARTS OF WARM WATER

Dip a cleaning cloth into the Soap mixture and clean the piece with the lightly wrung cloth. It is recommended to work with 2 buckets: one with soap water and one with rinse water. Clean the piece with a minimum quantity of water. Immediately clean off any standing soap/water solution with a dry cloth. To finish, wipe piece with soap water on hard wrung out cloth (damp cloth, not dripping wet) in order to re-establish the protective WOCA Soap film. Let dry 30 minutes before using.

NEVER USE OTHER CLEANING PRODUCTS, WHICH CAN DAMAGE YOUR OILED PIECE.

REMOVING STAINS AND SCRATCHES

Light scratches are best repaired by hand rubbing WOCA Master Oil Natural on your piece on the affected area using a cloth. Rub a small amount of WOCA Master Oil on the scratch. Leave the oil to absorb for a short period of time before removing the oil from the surface with a clean cotton cloth. Be sure to remove all of the oil on top of the wood. Allow to dry. Always soak oil stained rags in water before lying flat to dry. Then dispose in regular trash. Very tough stains caused by red wine, coffee, etc. can be removed by using WOCA Spot Remover. Simply spray the Spot Remover on the spot and leave approx. 5 minutes to dissolve. Wipe or scrub the spot before wiping it clean. If necessary, repeat the treatment. After removing the spot, the piece should be treated with a small amount of WOCA oil.

FUTURE MAINTENANCE

Over time it may be necessary to apply more oil to your furniture piece. It is recommended that WOCA Maintenance Oil or Master Oil be used once a year to maintain the properties of the finish. A one time purchase of most of the recommended cleaning products will last for several cleanings and even years.
